To trip or not to trip?
If you’re like a lot of people, you probably take several trips in your car every week. But if you’re like many of us, you’re actually taking more trips than you need to. Use the following techniques to find out how you can save gas, time and hassles simply by driving a little less than you do now:
- Trip Chaining – Plan ahead, so you can combine as many errands as possible into each trip. Every time you get in your car, think of all the places you may want to stop in the next few days; grocery stores, drug stores, banks, friend’s houses, etc. See how many of those stops you can combine into that trip—it’s an easy way to save gas, money and time.
- Trip Skipping – Even if you have to drive most of the time, it doesn’t mean you have to drive all the time. For example, many people don’t really need to take their cars to work every single day. On days when you don’t absolutely have to run an extra errand or drive to an off-site meeting, try an alternative like the bus, train, carpool, bike or telework. It will give your wallet, your stress levels and the environment a break.
